Indian-origin millionaire and progressive activist Saikat Chakrabarti has launched a bold campaign to unseat Nancy Pelosi in the 2026 Democratic primary for California’s 11th Congressional District. A Harvard-educated software engineer and former chief of staff to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chakrabarti accuses Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jeffries and Pelosi of failing to modernise the party. He says Democrats must rebuild their base to “stop an authoritarian coup” and support working-class Americans. The 38-year-old, who helped create the Justice Democrats, previously worked on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign and helped launch AOC’s political rise in 2018. Now, he’s calling for a new generation of Democrats to challenge entrenched leaders. Pelosi, 85, is seeking her 21st term, but Chakrabarti insists she no longer represents the current fight. His campaign signals a dramatic internal showdown within the Democratic Party that could reshape its future ahead of 2026.
