This week, we woke up to that incredible view overlooking the snowcapped mountains and the “unnamed” glacier across the bay while having breakfast and coffee around a fire. In case you didn’t know, breakfast around a camp fire is one of my (Jess) favorite things ever! And I can’t think of a better way to spend our last few hours in Whittier!

The next few days were jam packed with visiting friends in Anchorage, washing the rig at Highmark (thanks so much, Matthew!), and making one last trip to see if we could get a glimpse of that elusive mountain peak - Denali!

If you recall, we tried to see it once before at the South Denali Lot but were totally skunked. This time we headed to the North Denali lot which is so much better for overnight camping. Right before dinner, a white mountain peak appeared and the camp host told us and many other people there that it was Denali.

Overjoyed by our good luck, we made dinner and headed to bed. We are so thankful that we ended up staying there that night because the next morning, the REAL Denali made an appearance, and we got to feel that elation all over again! Unfortunately, the weather man wasn’t very truthful the night before either and all of our stuff got drenched! NOTE: Always put your outdoor stuff away at night when in Alaska!

We met up with some of our incredible FOS Crew who were also in the area for a group Outback Steakhouse dinner and a tour of the Lineage. Next our fridge died, and we figured out how to fix it without having to buy a new one and wait for it to get shipped to Alaska! Once that situation was under control, we headed over Thompson Pass to Valdez to meet with friends for an Alaskan salmon dinner!
