2020 Tower Senior Investigator Grant recipient Lily Yang, MD, PhD explains with regards to her novel Immunotherapy approach, how we are trying to use our own immune systems to fight cancer. Might a drug used to treat depression be repurposed to treat cancer? Might the successful suppression of depression be replicated in the suppression of cancer? She shares, “It could save patient’s lives, improve their life quality, and oh yes, make them less depressed. It’s one of those wow moments in research. As a research scientist we have ideas. New exciting ideas like this one. However, without the support from the Tower’s Magnolia Council, those ideas stay as ideas.
