An NIA court in Chennai has issued a summons to Pakistan diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui, the alleged mastermind of a fake currency ring. The case, which dates back to 2018, involves a conspiracy to destabilize the Indian economy by circulating high-quality counterfeit currency. Siddiqui, who is currently posted as a councillor in the visa department of the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka, is reportedly absconding. The charge sheet claims the plan was to "release highly clear fake currencies into India in a way of espionage and to actually make sure that the Indian economy is destabilized." The court has instructed Siddiqui to appear by 10th of October 2025. The case was filed under various sections of the UAPA.
