Erica Krupin, a 37-year-old from Michigan, has turned her side hustle of scooping dog poop into a business generating over $200,000 annually—all without a college degree. Initially, she tried various jobs, from bartending to working as a pharmacy technician, but ultimately found her passion in the idea of cleaning up dog waste from pet owners’ yards.

She founded Kroopin’s Poopin Scoopin in 2018, starting with $1,000 to purchase the necessary tools. She marketed her business by bringing donuts and business cards to pet-related establishments. Within just a few weeks, she had landed her first 15 clients.

In 2020, she left her job as a pharmacy technician to focus full-time on her business—a timely decision, as the pandemic spurred a rise in pet ownership. Her projected revenue for 2024 is $250,000.

Krupin now has additional staff and hopes to expand her services to other cities. While poop scooping may be seen as "dirty," it has helped her grow personally, become a successful entrepreneur, and inspire others starting their own businesses.
Erica Krupin only left her hospital job when her dog waste cleanup business began generating more income than her steady $20-per-hour salary. Initially, she ran the business herself, working mornings and evenings, occasionally with support from her husband. By the end of 2019, after a year in business, she confidently quit her old job to focus on the business full-time.

Today, Krupin employs a full-time scooping technician and a virtual assistant, and she has invested in the Jobber management software. She works five days a week, dividing her time between field cleanups and administrative tasks. Her most popular service is weekly cleanups, starting at $87 per month. Demand peaks in spring, when the snow melts—a period she humorously refers to as the "Brown Super Bowl."

In addition to her main business, Krupin has built a podcast called The Scoop With Erica Krupin, where she shares business insights and inspires other entrepreneurs. Her podcast, along with her YouTube channel, added $22,000 in income in 2024.

Though her work might be considered "dirty," Krupin takes pride in the success and personal growth it has brought her. She describes the outdoor nature of the job as "relaxing and enjoyable."
