MARANTZ CD 48 WITH TDA 1549 DAC - CD PLAYER MODIFIED

The Marantz CD 48 is one of 4 major Philips made CD players that used the 'magical' TDA 1549 DAC. The others were the Marantz 5000, the Philips CD 751, and the Philips 753. (The Philips will have aither TDA1541A or TDA1549). A few other manufacturers also used this DAC which was produced for only one year.
The sound produced is certainly characterised. In my view it sounds like it's come from valve (tube) equipment. The modifications I make produce a very big difference in quality primarily in the areas of detail and bass response, but the mids and highs are also cleaner. This from an already outstanding player.


I will be modifying these and selling them on ebay at a sensible price. Look for me 'bobshifimods'.
