Nguruman Escarpment! This destination ranks way up in our list of epic places to visit in Kenya! A quiet, shaded campsite with a mountain stream passing through it with clear, clean and cool water, plus adjacent hills and plains being full of animals, panoramic views from the top of the surrounding hills, numerous waterfalls with pools with the biggest and most scenic of them being Entasopia Falls..

The Nguruman Escarpment forms the western wall of the Rift Valley in southern Kenya adjacent to the Kenyan-Tanzanian border, some 150 km from Nairobi. The Escarpment rises steeply in a series of stepped, rocky faults from the flood-plain of the Ewaso Ngiro River (different from Ewaso Nyiro that flows from Lake Olbolosat in Nyandarua to Lorian Swamp in Northern Kenya) on the floor of Rift Valley. It raised up to 2,300 m at its crest.

From Nguruman Escarpment's crest, Loita Hills loom still higher, then the land falls more gently away to the Loita Plains and the Maasai Mara. The area and vegetation change from dry, rocky, scrubby and arid-plain lands with scattered Acacia trees, to dense, green Acacia forests and bushes on the lower slopes of the Escarpment watered by clear springs emanating from Loita Hills forests.

Clear, cool, fast-running streams flow down the escarpment, fringed on their lower reaches with tall riparian forests of huge fig trees. The land there is comprised of several Maasai group ranches and conservancies like Olkirimatian Conservancy. It's choke-full of wild animals peacefully co-existing with Maasai herdsmen, with lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, hyenas, leopards and many more.
