"There is a request of extradition regarding General Pinochet. This request of extradition had to be discussed by the appeals court of Santiago. I understand that by a majority of votes it was agreed to take his immunity away and thus be subject to be trailed in the extradition process. What I want to add to this is that it is a decision of an appeals court which can be appealed and this demonstrates that the institutions in my country work as they should. It is the judicial power that has taken this determination and I won't comment on a decision of the judicial power since it is autonomous."

"It is almost impossible to talk about the number of deaths. Imagine during the night without electricity, the floods just swept away everything, but the first indications I had yesterday morning before I left Haiti was between one thousand and 12-hundred dead. With respect to the situation in Dominican Republic, there is a river that flows from Haiti to Dominican Republic, so it is true that a lot of the bodies that reached the Dominican Republic are Haitian bodies. Those bodies are decomposed so it is difficult to say. The Dominicans are now trying to identify them. There is a possibility of an epidemic breaking out so we have to act urgently."
