Layout Update: December 2019 - Yorkshire Dales Model Railway

A pre-Christmas layout update this week.

Firstly, I’ve added passengers to some coaches. I got a pack of 50 from Amazon for £11. These are pretty poor quality and the paint job is pants, but they are perfect in coaches and look completely fine through the windows. You could always touch up the paint job if you were so inclined. I amputated some legs and then superglued them in position. All my Hornby carriages are complete, but I haven’t worked out how to safely get the Bachmann MK1s apart yet!

Secondly, I’ve improved some of my locos by adding brass smoke box door handles. Many bachmann models have these moulded onto the chassis and so cutting these away and replacing them makes a noticeable difference. These were painted with Railmatch Roof Dirt to match the loco. These are available online from the likes of Wizard Models, Eileen’s Emporium etc. It’s a quick and easy job, and makes a considerable improvement.

I also improved my Bachmann WD Austerity by adding cab doors and a floor using plasticard. This disguised the gap between the loco and tender and improves the appearance considerably.

Lastly, I’ve been doing some decorating in the loft by putting up some flags! I’ll need a few more to cover the remained of the loft though.

Hopefully if I’ve been well behaved this year Father Christmas will be bring some railway related treats next week.
