This was a really good 9.4 miles of walking, from the Ramblers' Routes site, on a wonderful, late November day. Clear blue skies, with hardly any breeze on the Suffolk/Norfolk border.
Using the GPX track, this walker chose to start from Brandon station and was soon out in the countryside, enroute to Weeting, with its ruined castle and attractive church. After crossing the only busy road of the day, it's into Thetford Forest and on to see the former flint mines of Grimes Graves.
Lunch is had, once again, at St Mary The Virgin church, in the delightful Forestry Commission settlement of Santon Downham.
Thereafter, it's more forest walking on the Hereward Way/St Edmund Way, passing some horse paddocks in a clearing and then joining Gashouse Drove into Brandon.
A quality walk, that is nicely varied; the Forest isn't just blanket conifers. Decent paths, for the most part; the farm tracks were the muddiest areas today.
Jet-noise from nearby Lakenheath could be an issue on certain days, but not today!
( The pair of birds seen in gorse on the heathland, though obscured, are believed to be Stonechats, as this is classic terrain for them).
