How to structure your Amazon business
What is a Limited Company?
• Is legally separate from the people who run it (your personal assets are protected)
• Has separate finances from your personal ones
• Has shares and shareholders
• Can keep any profits it makes after paying tax (19% corporation tax in the UK)


Name your Company
• This name is not your brand name of the products you will sell on amazon (it will show on official papers only)
• Your name cannot be the same as another registered company’s name. If your name is too similar to another company’s name or trademark you may have to change it if someone makes a complaint.
• Your name must usually end in either ‘Limited’ or ‘Ltd’
• Check the Companies House Register to find out if your name is available
• You can use this name to create your business email (register to Amazon, deal with suppliers or any other services you sign up for, it looks professional)
SIC Codes
• What is a SIC code?
• Standard industrial classification of economic activities (SIC)- These are codes to describe your business activities
• Check SIC codes to find the categories that apply to your business activities
• You can have 4, we recommend adding 4 codes to cover more activities – wholesale trade, retail via stores and markets
• What is the SIC Code for E-Commerce?
• The SIC Code is 47910 (Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet)
Documents and Shares
Prepare your documents
• Proof of identification
• Proof of address
Shares of your company
• We recommend putting 100 shares
• The number of shares is important as in the future you want to be able to sell some of your shares (maybe to an investor, or to sell part of your business)
Funding your company
• make sure when you move funds from your personal bank account to your business bank account
you do it as directors’ loan
• This way in the future when your company makes enough money to pay your initial investment back, you do not have to pay tax on it
Company formation providers
When you choose provider to form your company, look for a package that includes:
• Registered office address
• Service address
This is to help to keep your privacy, this way your residential address does not show on Companies House public register
