The cause of a terrifying school bus fire is still under investigation in Cleveland Heights.

Thursday, Cleveland Heights fire crews (CHFD) responded to reports of flames erupting out of a Cleveland Heights-University Heights (CH-UH) school bus on the intersection of Northampton and Cambridge Roads.

The school district says 15 students were en route to Monticello Middle School when the fire broke out behind one of the bus' rear wheels.

3News obtained the most recent bus inspection report from Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), which reveals the bus was inspected and cleared Feb. 14 — just two weeks prior to the incident.

According to OSHP, mechanics with school districts join state inspectors for annual bus inspections, so they know how to address violations that are discovered.
