Speaking on the rising crimes against women in the wake of the Kolkata Rape-Murder case, Kerala Governor on August 25 condemned it and called it very shameful.
He said, “It is a very shameful thing, where such crimes against women are happening. What is our culture, what is our history? Be it knowledge, prosperity or power, we see everything in the feminine gender and worship it. And here we see this kind of behaviour with our sisters and daughters...Strict laws are very important, but even more important than laws is to create consciousness within the society, to create a feeling of respect and honour towards women...This country, its culture, its history, deserves much better treatment than this.”
