A girl once survived when a plane was struck by lightning while flying in the sky? Her name was Juliane Koepcke, a 17-year-old girl from Peru.

On Christmas Eve in 1971, she boarded Lansa Flight 508 with her mother when suddenly, the plane exploded in mid-air and broke apart over the Amazon jungle. Every passenger was k!lled instantly — except Juliane.

She fell 10,000 feet, still strapped to her seat, crashing through trees that slowed her fall and ultimately saved her life.

With a broken collarbone and deep wounds, she woke up alone in the jungle. The air was filled with the sounds of insects and birds. As she struggled to stand, she noticed a crow nearby — pecking at the remains of other passengers — and soon realized she was surrounded by bodies scattered from the wreckage.

With no food and no shelter, she clung to survival with only a small bag of candy she had found. For 11 days, Juliane wandered through the rainforest, drinking rainwater and following a river downstream, hoping it would lead to safety.

At last, she stumbled upon a small hut, where local villagers discovered her and rescued her.
