JrX (Junior Expert) is as close to Pro downhill racing as a 14yo girl can get at the NWCup, and it's a big deal! As opposed to Cat2, JrX races on the pro track, practices with the pros, and seeds just like the pros. This is Nory's GoPro POV and line choice for her debut race in the JrX category.

Many consider the Tamarack track to be the most difficult on the NWCup circuit. The top of the course is highly technical, with high consequences for mistakes, and the bottom is more traditional bike park with off-camber grassy corners that challenge the best riders. Indeed, there were many injuries during practice and while racing.

Nory crushed it. She seeded 2nd out of 5 and ended up placing 3rd in super tight racing. She was 0.4 seconds behind 2nd and less than 1 second ahead of 4th. She's definitely in the right category, it's going to be fun to follow this group through the remainder of the downhill season.

Let's talk about the track. As with any good track, there are many line choices to consider. The course starts with a rock roll that most racers drop. The first tech section is gnarly at speed, and approaches quickly - you have to be ready for it! Immediately following this chute is a rock roll with lots of important line choices to maximize speed onto the following straight.

Nory makes a mistake in the valley that follows, she got pushed to the left when intending to stay central or right. She carries good speed into the third tech section, an awkward turn to rock garden, to wood bridge that leaves many riders confused. The fourth tech section comes just a few turns later, Nory chooses the left line and carefully navigates the drop at the end.

Then comes the fast part of the course with many high-speed corners that are hard to hold because they are off camber. The jump section is fun, but riders are challenged to not overshoot the jumps. Then more off-camber grassy corners and a small jump down to the finish.

Nory finished with a time of 3:30.85, good for 3rd place in tight racing. Congrats to Sara Ligman for the win, Kate McKenzie for nipping Nory by 0.4, and former Sweetlines teammate Josephine Aubin for the 4 spot. Addison Buckenberger rounded out the 5-deep podium.
