The Strattos S5 is Polygon's top of the line alloy frame / carbon fork road bike and is aimed at avid road cyclists, sportive regulars and everyday commuters. This bike combines a lightweight, durable and reliable alloy frame with the proven performance and popularity of the Shimano 105 22 speed gear set.

The Strattos frame is made of Polygon's new ALX Performance 6061 Hydroformed Aluminium which is now only 1.3kg (350 grams lighter than last years Strattos frame) and has been designed for improved bump absorption and vibration compliance. Also, used in high performance cars, hydroforming injects fluid into a cylindrical frame tube to manipulate into a more beneficial shape which allows Polygon to reduce weight and increase stiffness in the key areas of the frame to improve ride quality. The frame is constructed with super smooth, double welded joints. The first weld is used for strength, then using a die grinder it is ground back to which a second weld is added to fill in any gaps. Lastly, the final grind and polish are applied, to give the frame joints an almost carbon like appearance. Not only does this frame look like carbon and ride like carbon, it still also provides the incredible value of aluminium.

The latest Shimano 105, R7000 22 Speed groupset propels the Strattos S5 forward and adds understated performance to the bike. A full compact drivetrain, with frame-size specific crankset length, a 50/34 tooth crank, and an 11/30 tooth cassette ensure you can keep a high cadence on the steepest of uphills and yet gives you enough gears to sprint downhill. Similar to Shimano Dura Ace and Ultegra, the R7000 crankset features fixed BCD, meaning you can swap the chainrings to 53-39T, 52-36T or 50-34T all using the same crank arm spider and there is no need to replace the whole crankset. The rear derailleur now also uses Shimano’s low-profile Shadow parallelogram design which significantly reduces crash vulnerability and improves shift performance.

Shifters and brake technology have also been trickled down from Dura Ace and Ultegra gruppos, with slimmer and lighter shifters and “real” dual-pivot brakes that increase braking power and modulation by 30% when compared to previous versions.

The wheelset on the Strattos S5 is the new Entity clincher which is now tubeless ready. The wheels feature sealed bearings, semi aero rims with 30mm profile, 28 spokes front and back, oversized freehub engagement pawls and a machined alloy brake surface. This results in a wheel that exudes quality. The Entity clincher is one of the lightest wheelsets in its category which has allowed it to keep rotational mass as low as possible, improving acceleration and handling. Matching these wheels are Schwalbe Lugano 25c tyres keeping the Strattos S5 rubber side down at all times, with plenty of grip on dry and wet roads plus Schwalbe’s Active Guard adds puncture protection so you can rest assured the tyres are going to handle the roughest of road terrain.

Completing the Strattos S5 is Polygon’s in-house brand for components, Entity. This includes triple butted alloy bars, alloy stem and alloy seatpost. The Entity saddle is slim in profile and long, allowing for you to shift your body weight on the bike when attacking an uphill or tucking into the downhills.
