On 21st March 2023, Ambassador James Kimonyo accompanied by the Embassy First Secretary, Mr. Augustin Buregeya witnessed the signing of the contract for Design, Construction and commissioning of Kigali centralized Sewerage System (KCSS) in Beijing between Rwanda Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) and China Railway Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CRCEG).
Kigali Centralized Sewerage System is one of the key projects under Rwanda Sustainable
Water Supply and Sanitation Program and the program will alleviate this problem by
developing the first centralized sewerage system in Kigali city and will also address the
wastewater and solid waste management needs of the 6 satellite cities.

The first phase of the over €96 million (approx. Rwf 113 billion) project is projected to cater to the city's Central Business District (CBD).

The wastewater treatment plant at Giti Cy'inyoni is expected to have the capacity to treat 12,000 cubic metres of liquid waste every day.
