Created by Ed Story of St. Louis in the mid-1950s, the Crackleback is primarily a dry fly, but can also be fished as a wet or nymph. This versatile pattern has been a popular one for trout fishermen for almost 70 years.

Hook: #8-16 dry fly
Thread: Black, or any color if you want a hotspot head
Body: Dubbing, literally any fur or color
Back: Peacock herl
Hackle: Brown dry fly, palmered
