What is the Global Village?

The Global Village is a globally themed living and learning community. The Global Village welcomes students interested in learning about other cultures through in-depth cultural interaction and community development. The Global Village includes the Intercultural Floor, El Rincón Hispánico, Haus Wanderlust, Le Village Francophone, and the Chinese Village.

The Global Village residences are located in Tussey Hall. The residents share a newly renovated Global Commons dedicated to the interests and mission of the Global Village. The Global Commons is located between Tussey and Terrace Halls and features a central large area for big group activities & presentations and smaller areas for studying, small group meetings, and film viewing. Technology updates include satellite reception to receive television channels from around the world in various languages. The large shared kitchen provides space for cooking The residents have a dedicated storage area for their cooking supplies and food. The Global Commons will feature a dining area for residents to share meals in large or small groups. There are some board games that are internationally themed.

Aside from the obvious benefits of being a member of a living and learning community with a common curricular element, you will have:

Global Village Budget – Used for special activities, cultural events, dinners, cultural excursions, and community events.
Community – Each space will have a Programming Coordinator who promotes activities and fosters a greater sense of community in the residence.

All are welcome to participate! There is no specific POE required for admittance into our community. Simply bring an open mind and willingness to learn as well as a desire to share your own culture. This is great for students who want to develop intercultural communication skills, enhance their language learning, or just want to have a fun time living and learning about our diverse world. The Global Village is “Co-ed scattered” meaning both men and women can live together.
