In this video, I break down my Top Hinge Cutting Fails that I see when I'm out on client properties and/or what I observe others doing on social media.

Hinge cutting is a great tool in the toolbox to help improve the quality of habitat for whitetails, but it's not for every property, nor should it be attempted by just anyone.

Though logging should always be considered first, you may not have enough saleable timber for a logger to bother with. Remember, just because it's an oak tree doesn't mean it's a great timber value tree or acorn producing tree.

That being said, please do not attempt hinge cutting if you feel any sense of apprehension whatsoever. It is dangerous, no doubt. Leave it to the experts who know what trees hinge best and who know what to expect from various trees when attempting a hinge cut.
