Raghavendra Swami or Raayaru (as we affectionately call him with respect), a popular Madhwa saint, is a great Guru. Through his devotion to Lord Krishna and also by dint of hard penance, the Guru attained a special stature and also acquired special powers to bless people who came to him seeking succour. That is why he is considered a demi-god by his devotees and is called the 'Kalpavriksha', meaning wish-fulfilling tree and the 'Kamadhenu', meaning celestial cow granting all wishes of die-hard devotees. Sri Guru Raghavendra Swami who went into Sanjeeva Samadhi at Mantralaya has declared that he will reside in the Brindavan at Mantralaya for 700 years continuously blessing the devotees, hence devotees storm to Mantralaya to seek favours and blessings.
