Описание к видео When Someone With Dementia Doesn't Think You Are You

Delusions are a symptom that can happen in any type of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease or Lewy Body dementia. A delusion is a fixed belief that someone believes no mater what- despite all the evidence to the contrary. Common delusions include beliefs that someone is stealing things or that a significant other is having an affair when those things aren't actually happening. A lesson common delusion in dementia is called Capgras Syndrome. It's when someone with dementia believes the person who is front of them is not the person they say they are. This usually happens to a spouse or close relative. The person IS actually their spouse, but the person with dementia thinks they've been replaced with an imposter. This can be such a hard symptom of dementia to cope with. In this video I break down how you can respond to Capgras syndrome to help calm and reassure the person with dementia.

In case you haven’t met me, my name is Natali Edmonds and I am a board certified geropsychologist. That means that I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with older adults. One day, while hiking a trail, I came up with the idea for Careblazers and I decided to see if posting videos online could provide help to the many other Careblazers in the world who don’t get to have help come directly to them in their homes. I hope that this work helps you in some way on your caregiving journey.
