Inthira Vang Vieng Hotel in Vang Vieng, Laos - Interview with Charles-David Hay, General Manager

The Inthira group is a well established and expanding Laos-based company that owns and operates hotels, restaurants and apartments, as well as the Green Discovery tour operator that specialises in adventure travel and eco-tourism across the country.

As the group has a boutique, 38-room hotel on a bank of the Nam Song river in the very heart of Vang Vieng, Steven Howard of Travel News Asia sat down with the relatively new GM, Charles-David Hay, to ask him about the property and about the small town of Vang Vieng, which thanks to the new expressway and high speed train service is now only an hour away from the capital city of Vientiane.

In this interview, filmed on 27 January 2024 after the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Vientiane, Charles-David explains how the hotel differs from others in Vang Vieng, why people should visit the town and what challenges the hotel faces in recruiting and retaining the right quality of staff.

Steven asks whether the growing number of hotels in the town work together to promote the destination, what there is to do in Vang Vieng, which markets the hotel's guests are currently coming from and which the company is trying to attract moving forward, and what the hotel does to fill the rooms during the quieter mid-week days.
