You may have thought that…well, food is just food right?

But actually, food can be divided into groups.

Identifying what we now call Food groups is kind of a new thing, so we need to begin from where it all started. The Food Pyramid

The first food pyramid was published in Sweden in 1974. But in 2011 the food pyramid was replaced by My Plate.

It no longer looks like a pyramid but now it resembles a plate

The MyPlate is broken down into 5 food groups. The plate features four sections for each food group. Each section is for fruit, vegetables, protein and grains, and a separate section is next to the plate for dairy.
