The East Midlands Railway train fleet is currently nearing the end of the process of being nearly entirely replaced with newer or new trains.

Class 158 Express Spritner were originaly going to leave EMR but since the Liverpool to Norwich route is not currently planned to be split away from EMR the 158 will be retained as there is not enougth 170 to operate this route as well as other regional routes. The 158 retained will receive a minor refurbishment and continue to operate with EMR for now.

Class 170 Turbostar along with 158 form regional EMR services. There will receive a full refurbishment which will allow all EMR operated 170 to receive the same interiors as currnelty there is a mix of Southern, West Midlands Railway, ScotRail and Greater Anglia/Transport for Wales interiors where these units moved from. These are planned to be the medium to long term EMR regional trains.

New rolling stock planned to enter service soon is the new build Hitachi class 810 Aurora Intercity Express Trains (IET) bi mode trains are delayed but should enter service in 2025 which will replace the class 222 Meridian on Midland Main Line Intercity services out of London. These will increase capacity on these services and will feature both standard and first class. Although replacing the 222 the 222 have had minor refurbishments due to the delayed in class 810 introduction.

The class 360 Desiro moved to EMR from Greater Anglia after being repalced by class 720 Aventra. These operate mainly in pairs on Connect Luton Airport Express services and will receive full interior refubishments with a more suitable seating layout planned to be provided.

The train fleet information is correct as possible as of September 2024 and future train fleet dates are based for the planned introduction for passenger services. Past Train Fleet is based on when the current East Midlands Railway operation has been in operation since 2019.
