To witness a turtle hatching has been my dream for probably a decade. We have seen turtles nesting in Sri Lanka a couple of years ago. In 2018 I visited different turtle nesting beaches in Middle and North Andaman islands, five times, without luck.

During our 2020 trip to the Great Nicobar Island, two visits to a turtle nesting beach yielded no success either.

Good things come to those who wait for. The night before our departure, when we were packing our backpacks, getting ready to wake up early in the morning to leave the island, friends knocked on our door and said: “come, we will show you something”.

There were are two turtles laying eggs on the beach and dozens of small hatchlings that have just hatched from the nest. It was one of the happiest days of our travel life.
