Here are 5 reasons why potty training might not be working:

1. THE TIMING IS BAD
As a parent you have a lot on your mind and often times when it comes to potty training you don’t pay too much attention. And why should you? It’s something that we don’t even have to think about and we’ve been doing it all of our lives.

But it doesn’t take long to come back to reality and remind ourselves that a child doesn’t know much and he or she is learning new things everyday. Potty training is actually a very big step in their lives and it’s not that easy to make it a habit.

The first step is to know when to start and that’s our job as parents.

start too early and wonder why nothing happens.
start too late and deal with unnecessary struggles.

2. GOING THROUGH CHANGE
A divorce, a new city or even changes around the house can make a child uncomfortable. We have to remember that they are very sensitive and if we’re trying to teach them how to use the potty we need to make sure this happens while they are in a comfortable situation.


3. BEING TRAINED WITHOUT CLOTHES
So guess what! It’s common for a child to want to take their clothes off for various reasons. Maybe it’s not the case but if he or she gets used to using the potty while being naked, chances are they will want to be in the same situation every time.

This becomes an issue if you have guests, you are in a public place or even on vacation. Not being in their own environment they can become shy and feel embarrassed taking their clothes off. Therefore they either wet themselves or don’t do anything at all.

This is not something you hear a lot so it’s good to have it in your arsenal.


4. COMMON FOR CHILDREN OVER 3
At this age there are other factors that come into play. The child is more grown up, you have to deal with a strong personality plus they are involved in more activities.

This leads to more distractions and they can even forget that they have to go. The good news is that they should be already familiar with the concept. With the right practice results can come sooner rather than later.


5. POTTY TRAIN WITHOUT A PLAN
As mentioned in the beginning we believe that using the potty can come natural and we don’t pay too much attention to teaching such a thing. It’s perfectly normal and can’t blame ourselves for that. But it’s a common error which leads to frustration and wasted time.

Turn the odds in your favour and always follow a process instead of using trial and error.
