Excel SEARCH Function - Overview, Formula, How to Use?

The SEARCH function is a text function that is used in a string / text to locate a substring.

= SEARCH( find_text, within_text, [start_num] )

𝐀𝐫𝐠𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Find text - find text refers to the substring / character you want to search for within a string or text you want to search.

within_text - Where the substring is located or where the find text is performed.

[start_num] - From where within text you want to start the SEARCH.If omitted, SEARCH considers it has 1and star search from first character.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥

#1 - SEARCH function in excel is not case-sensitive.

#2 - Wildcard characters are also allowed, i.e.? "Tilde", "*" and "~."

#3 - It returns the #VALUE! Error found within text, if there is no matching string.
