What role do pets and other animals play in humanity's spiritual evolution?

Animals have been a part of humanity's experience since the dawn of time, and domesticated pets for tens of millennia.

It is fair to say that their presence has shaped our spiritual evolution massively, but in what ways?

In the book 'A New Earth', German spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle gives animals and pets in the particular the beautiful title 'Guardians of Being'.

I think this title explains part of their function in our spiritual evolution beautifully.

Animals and pets by extension are more rooted in the natural world, in a state of 'being' beyond or beneath the thinking mind.

Humanity, as part of its journey of spiritual evolution cultivated the thinking mind and resulting ego.

As a necessary part of this journey, we became fully ensconced in though, to the point of feeling separate from nature, life, and each other.

Throughout this journey, animals and pets remained close to us, providing a safety cord or 'tether' to the natural world, helping to root us in being.

In this way, pets in particular have helped calm humanity, bring it back to nature, and assuage the extremes of ego and overthinking.

Pets have also provided humanity great lessons in love, connection, loyalty, friendship, companionship, and more - another wonderful service.

The relationship is not a one-way street, however. Everything in nature comes back to symbiosis, cooperation, mutual benefit.

Humanity in turn aided the spiritual evolution of countless souls of what are called '2nd density beings' in The Ra Material books.

2nd density beings are the plants, animals, bacteria, etc.

3rd density beings are humans, thinking animals.

We are becoming 4th density beings (dwelling in the 4th and 5th dimensions), in part thanks to the help of animals.

Meanwhile, we are helping the souls of many animals jump from 2nd density up into 3rd density (reincarnating as humans or other thinking animals on other planets).

In this way, everyone wins, this is the spiritual symbiosis of animals, pets, and humans in a nutshell, at least how I see it so far.
