Cockpit voice recordings document one pilot asking the other, “Why did you cut off?” to which the reply was, “I didn’t,” raising controversy and speculation, but no confirmed pilot error.

Mechanical issues like engine, hydraulic, electrical failures, or possible software malfunction are considered probable causes, while deployment of the ram air turbine immediately before impact is also being reviewed.
