Former basketball player Rex Chapman shockingly revealed that during his college days, he was offered $700,000 under the table by wealthy boosters to stay for another year at the University of Kentucky. In the '80s, this amount translates to around $1.8 million in today's dollar value. Chapman decided to leave college in 1988 to join the NBA draft and became the first player ever drafted by the Charlotte Hornets. They were a newly formed expansion team at the time. Interestingly, the contract he signed with the Hornets was worth $675,000, making his decision to leave college technically a pay cut.
