Armenians had been telling me for so long I simply HAVE to visit Gyumri - the second largest city in Armenia - for its rich culture, history and culinary delicacies!

In contrast to Yerevan (the capital), it is far smaller, quieter place, with older buildings, more dogs and less tourism.

After taking a quick walk round, the first stop was to try the 'Armenian Doughnut' - called Ponchik. Ponchik is available all over Armenia, but the Gyumri version is famous and different to what is found in Yerevan. Delicious!

Next we learnt a traditional Gyumri dance, taught by the hugely talented guys at Mirage Dance Studio. I have a lot of learning to do, but they are amazing. You can book them for your wedding or event!

Finally we tried Qyalla, the delicacy dish of Gyumri - a cow or lamb's head! The history behind this is very interesting, and was described to us perfectly by Armen, who was our tour guide on the trip.

Armen is the BEST man to show you around Gyumri, and his knowledge of the region is second to none.
