After leading the Cats to four Final Fours and a National Championship in 2012, what could possibly get the Hall of Fame Coach excited about another pre-season? Enter “positionless” basketball as Cal, forever the showman, thrives on “outside-the-box” thinking as college basketball’s version of Steve Jobs meets P.T. Barnum. Maybe that’s why Big Blue Madness is always “The Greatest Show on Earth.”

As you might expect, Cal’s foray into “positionless” basketball has fans wondering what to look for during the upcoming season. So let’s begin with Cal’s own definition.

“We started the positionless stuff based on the way we play…if you’re a wing, whether you’re a 2, 3 or a 4, you’re the same,” said Calipari during UK’s Pro Day. “Eventually, I’d like to have a bunch of 6-9 guys that can play point and shoot it.”

Currently ranked 4th in the USA Today Pre-Season Coaches Poll, this Kentucky team might just have the size, talent and athleticism to make Calipari’s dream a reality.
