In 1982, Michelin two-wheel tire innovation moved into off-road terrain with the "Desert" off-road tire, designed for the rally-raid motorcycle market. The Desert tire helped Michelin win the Atlas and Pharaohs Rallies that year. 1983 saw the first of 36 consecutive victories in the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally, revealing the tire's incredible potential, dominating rally-raids until 2010 and being used on machines ranging from 125ccm to 1200ccm+, with speed of over 240 km/h (150 mph) on the vast straights of african deserts. 2011 saw Michelin introduce the new "Desert Race" tire specially designed for the regulation controlled 450ccm capacity machines, continuing Michelin's winning streak in the deserts of the world to this day.
