What started as a chill solo fishing session turned into one of the sketchiest moments I’ve had in a long time.

I spotted two guys way down the riverbank—nothing unusual at first, until one locked eyes with me from a distance. The look on his face set off alarms. Cold. Blank. Something wasn’t right.

They kept inching closer, creeping through the brush like they were trying not to be seen—except they wanted to be seen. Staring at me through the trees, then walking right up. No fishing gear. No small talk. Just standing there, pretending to look at the trees while burning holes through me with their eyes. I said “how's it going?” and got nothing back. Not a word. Just more silence.

It didn’t feel like curiosity. It felt like a setup.

My instincts screamed leave...now. So I packed up my gear, called my dog, and got out of there fast. Relocated upriver and talked it out on camera while the adrenaline was still fresh.

Here’s the takeaway: if you're out fishing solo—never let your guard down. Trust your gut. Pay attention to body language. And don’t assume everyone out there has good intentions. Situational awareness isn’t optional. It's survival.
