John Keats, Letters

Описание к видео John Keats, Letters

John Keats' Letters are written with the author's congenial personality in full view. But they were only windows into his personality, they would be little read today. The reason they are is that they offer insight into his poetic theory. His comments on the nature of art, of aesthetics, of the merits of the ancients vs the moderns, and of the progress of mankind all place him within foregoing conversations about poetry.

They also announce some decisive shifts for post-Christian anthropology. Despite Keats' insistence on a poetry based on sensation, he gives a decidedly Gnostic sense of human nature.

This lecture begins by making a few remarks about Percy Bysshe Shelley, but spends the bulk of the lecture on Keats.
