The cold chain that contributes to the National Immunization Program in Cuba has been strengthened with the acquisition of more than 500 prequalified refrigerators that have been located in the country's vaccination center network. Likewise, a refrigeration and freezing cold room with a total capacity of 60m³ was acquired for the airport, intended for the reception and temporary storage of vaccines arriving in the country. The equipment was acquired thanks to a cooperation project with funds from the Government of Canada, initially focused on providing access to COVID-19 vaccines in the Americas, especially to vulnerable populations.

Cuba was benefited with $1.3 million and the contribution also included the purchase of temperature monitoring devices, thermoses with their respective cold packages for the distribution of vaccines, among other supplies, such as computers to support the digital transformation of ESAVI surveillance.

Families, nurse vaccinators, and other specialists and authorities from the health sector, talk about the impact that this collaborative action has had on the national health system, the effective management of vaccines, and in general the well-being of the population, mainly children. In addition, experts from PAHO and WHO, and officials from the Canadian Embassy in Cuba, share their opinion on the results of this valuable project.
