Come with us as we spend a little a cloudy/rainy day visiting the amazing the Springfield Armory Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts. Just across the river from the town I grew up in, the museum is located on a bluff called Federal Hill, which overlooks the downtown area of Springfield.

My father a Purple Heart Veteran of WWII served in the Europe Theatre and used a M1 Garand as his service weapon. The M1 Garand was developed and manufactured at this very site. Little would he know, that later in life he would come to work at the very place that made his service weapon. He was employed as a Security Policeman for the Department of Defense at the armory throughout the 60's until the Armory closed.

I would then later attend college at the same location, which later became Springfield Technical Community College.

A memory that sticks out from my youth was having a pet squirrel when I was just very young. Apparently my father went to get in his car one day to come home and found a squirrel had taken a liking to it. The squirrel would not leave, so my father drove home with the squirrel. We put it in a cage and kept it some time before it died. Much to my amazement while visiting the museum I found a photo of a squirrel and a security policeman, that instantly brought me back to the 1960's.

The museum has a very informative video presentation on the history of the Armory that is a must watch.

Note: The museum is free for Veterans and Active Duty but I paid on this day as I was not aware of this....
