This video shows the correct operation of the centre stand mechanism. Simply pushing the bike off the stand will result in the "weak link" being broken. The weak link is designed to break before damage is caused to the cable mechanism (which is even more expensive and complicated to repair).
What I forgot to say in the video is that when taking the bike off the stand, or putting it back on, the rider should take their weight off the seat. There is normally a label on the dashboard saying "unweight the seat" and showing the sequence for operating the two levers. I repainted the dashboard so had to remove the label.
