Описание к видео Season 7, Episode 177 - The Pines Express Rides Again

It was once one of the famed named trains running around but then died away into the wilderness but thanks to UK Railtours, The Pines Express ran once again

It ran for the first time under the name Pines Express on 26 September 1927; and is believed to have been named after the pine trees growing in the Chines in the Bournemouth area. When the service first ran, unnamed, on 1 October 1910, it was run jointly by the Midland Railway and LNWR; and was introduced in response to a LSWR/GWR service between Birkenhead and Bournemouth.

The two termini used were nominally Manchester Piccadilly (then 'London Road') and Bournemouth West stations. However, for many years before the demise of the service, the northbound Pines terminated at the adjoining Mayfield station. This practice probably arose because the arrival time coincided with the evening rush hour when the London Road platforms were fully occupied. During the late 1950s this was the sole use of Mayfield station for passenger services

From 4 October 1965 it was extended to Poole, but the last train was run on 4 March 1967

Well, 50 years later, it returned and had some premium traction on it

Our first clip sees 87002 Royal Soverign pulling the Pines Express into Manchester Piccadilly, passing through Bramhall bang on time from London Euston

Then, adopting the old headcode of the original Pines Express, 1O95, we see 66747 trundling through Poynton station on it's way down to Eastleigh where a pair of Class 73s with take the train onwards to Bournemouth and then London Waterloo

Our final clip then sees 87002 heading back to base at Willesden TMD through Adlington station light to resume regular duties of sleeper haulage
