"There are more than 40 unions mobilizing across the country after a law was passed last week, an attempt against the advancement of the university reform. Even if this reform has not been 100% efficient and had some deficiencies regarding the participation by student unions, it untangled the education crisis that we had before 2014 that was due to great market dominance and exaggerated earnings from university that defraud the students."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of students and teachers from public and private universities across Peru on Saturday Marched in Lima against recent amendments to the standing education regulations to now allow them be autonomous from state supervision.
The amendments were passed in mid-July by a substantial majority of representatives in congress using a congress figure to override a presidential mandate by insisting their motion is worthy.
Wendy Yanac, a medical student from San Marcos University, said that more than 40 organizations are against the law approved by congress, which she described as an "attempt" against the advancement of the university reform.
The body overseeing the universities was created in 2014 to regulate higher education and aiming to deter fraud against students who obtained non-official documents at the end of their studies.  
Graciela Alvarado, President of the University Teachers' Federation in Peru, said some schools that are not "keen to being supervised, lobbied a law through congress against the reform."
