SILK vs SMILE | Which Laser to Choose for Specs Removal in 2023?

Описание к видео SILK vs SMILE | Which Laser to Choose for Specs Removal in 2023?

In this video, Dr. Rahil Chaudhary provides a comprehensive comparison of SILK and SMILE, two cutting-edge technologies revolutionizing the field of refractive surgery, helping you understand the key distinctions between these two advanced vision correction options.

If you're considering vision correction surgery, understanding these differences can help you make an informed decision.

👁️ Energy Efficiency: One of the crucial factors differentiating SILK and SMILE is their energy efficiency during the procedure. SILK utilizes an ultra-low energy laser operating at just 60 nanojoules, while SMILE employs a higher energy laser with an energy level of 150 nanojoules. This distinction is significant because the lower energy in SILK leads to reduced collateral tissue damage, resulting in decreased inflammation and a faster visual recovery. In contrast, the higher energy laser in SMILE can cause more extensive collateral damage, leading to a longer recovery period.

👁️ Spot Separation: Another critical aspect to consider is spot separation during the surgery. SILK features a bridgeless laser spot separation, ensuring the smoothest possible dissection of the lenticule. This precision reduces surgical manipulation, minimizes swelling and inflammation, and enhances visual recovery. In contrast, SMILE utilizes a spot separation of about 4 microns, which is larger than SILK's bridgeless laser spots. This can lead to more tissue manipulation in SMILE, resulting in swelling, inflammation, and a longer visual recovery period.

👁️ Lenticule Design: The design of the lenticule used in these procedures is also a key differentiator. SILK employs a biconvex lenticule design that enhances vision quality, accelerates nerve regeneration, and significantly reduces dry eye symptoms after surgery. It also maintains depth of focus and ensures a seamless transition in focus. On the other hand, SMILE uses a flat lenticule design, which may slow nerve regeneration, increase post-surgery dry eye symptoms, affect the depth of focus, and induce transition lag.

👁️ Cyclotorsion Compensation: SILK offers cyclotorsion compensation, correcting for the eye's rotation when changing positions. This feature is not present in SMILE, which can result in residual astigmatism post-surgery.

👁️ Visual Axis Treatment: SILK aligns treatments with the visual axis, providing a more natural and effective vision correction compared to SMILE's focus on the pupillary axis.

👁️ Recovery Time: Recovery time is a crucial consideration. SILK boasts a rapid recovery time of just 24 hours, whereas SMILE typically requires a longer recovery period of about 1 week.

👁️ Cost: It's also important to note the cost difference between the two procedures. The approximate cost of SILK for both eyes is ₹115,000, while SMILE is priced at around ₹90,000 for both eyes.

👁️ Correction Range: Both SILK and SMILE have similar correction ranges, as they can correct up to -8.0D specs power in myopia and up to -3 D in astigmatism.
