A guiding documentary for backpacking trough Australia with helpful hints and tips for your future adventure.
Introduction
We plan to produce a guiding documentary for backpacking or travelling Australia with helpful hints and tips for a successful adventure. First, just a few words to introduce ourselves.
Who we are
We are three young travellers, who met about a year ago in Perth (WA) whilst travelling with the working holiday visa. John (Australian) is our project creator, editor, and local travel guide. Co-contributors, Robin (German) and Federico (Italian) are our adventurous documenting backpackers and content creators.
With some prior experience and a little local knowledge, we planned to complete a life-long dream, to document a road trip from Perth to Darwin. Unfortunately in 2014 Federico had to return to Europe for work, post-phoning our plans. Now, January 2015 looks like the perfect time for us to realise our dream!
The summary of the project
Our idea is simple. More than just travelling - we want to share the experience to help other travellers find their way in this vast continent. When we first arrived in Australia, we had no idea how to backpack. Only by countless hours spent surfing the web and loads of help from other travellers did we learn how to survive, get jobs, where to go, what to see and how to get there. Nevertheless we still made mistakes along the road.
We feel the need to pass on our knowledge and experience for people who are going to travel in Australia in the future. We plan to do this whilst recording our travels for those who cannot make the trip and whoever is just interested to know how the real backpacking life is.
More than just an internet blog or a guide, we thought about something immediate, funny and real: an interactive multilingual documentary of the backpacking life.
The project in detail
We hope to take you with us on our next adventure.
With a bit of film editing we want to record a video diary of the trip we are making. The idea is to create two 15-20 minutes videos per week, plus pictures and writing which we would upload to social media via Facebook page and Twitter etc.
We like to travel slowly, making the most of opportunities along our trip, that’s why our plan is to spend 30-50 days to reach Darwin. If its within budget we plan to extend our trip down to Adelaide. During this time we’ll try to teach you everything you may need to do the same, and guide you through the places we are going to visit, and hopefully you might too.
The first week and videos will be about how to organize the trip. We’ll show you how to apply for the right visa, and how to make your first steps in the wonderful city of Perth. Then, we make another video on how to acquire a cheap and basic but suitable vehicle which can survive the Australian outback! Or how to fix and prepare one that can't. You can even watch us fixing our own car to make it an outback monster.
As real backpackers we travel on a super tight budget, you will see what really is and isn't necessary for a trip. We are going to plan the trip in detail, teaching you the cheapest and best places to camp, along with the thousands of spots you can’t miss along the road. The best thing is, we can, and will, publish all the important content in three languages: English, German and Italian!
The rest will be adventure, we have experience but not enough to make us accident-proof. Consequently, we hope you will learn from us but also help us making choices, be a team where we are the front line but we’ll do everything to make you feel like we are your eyes.
What we need
Where will your money go?
Currently we lack sufficient video editing software and hardware or appropriate cameras to produce our videos.
Also we are also looking at basic camping equipment and necessary tools to perform basic vehicle repairs.
The rest will contribute to daily fuel costs.
