RS033 Control Synthesis Deep Bass Nine: Lost in Space

Описание к видео RS033 Control Synthesis Deep Bass Nine: Lost in Space

Today, I‘ll take you on a trip down memory lane, as the synth featured here has been with me for close to 25 years. It was my first, and for a very long time, only proper analog synth and if I‘m honest, I wasn‘t to fond of it when I first got it because, like anyone else in the 90, what I really wanted was a 303, or at least a bass station. What I got, was this massive, heavy black slob of metal that only remotely sounded like a 303, had knobs that were harder to turn than an old truck‘s steering wheel and never seemed to be quite in tune with what came out of my PC.

For a very long time, I‘d mainly use it as a filter only, it at all, but from time to time, when I stopped pretending for the Deep Bass 9 to be a 303, I got some nice raw and warm sounds from it. It was, to be honest, a kind of love-hate relationship, but those seem to often last longer than many others do. So when I got back into synths a few years ago, the DB9 was at the heart of my initial setup, squelching it‘s way back into my heart.

When I started to do YouTube videos, it was always clear to me that I would eventually make a video about it too, as there seemed to be very little about online and it only took me 32 other videos to acquire the skills needed to properly pay tribute to my first analog (hate) love. When working on the video I even managed to find someone involved in the creation of the DB9 and he was kind enough to answer some questions about it’s inception (Thanks once again, James!). As it tuned out it’s an interesting little story that I will dedicate another video to, so keep any eye out for this video that will hopefully not take another 32 videos to get done.

As promised in the video, here’s a link to the Stereoping modding guide for the Deep Bass Nine:

Credit where it’s due, here are the sources to the clips I used to create some of the visuals to this video:

And yes, that is the OG Starfield Screensaver from Windows 3.1, in case you were wondering ;)
