National and international Clinical guidelines in stroke now all include the need to assess cognition, however, there are differing perspectives on how Post Stroke Cognitive Impairment is defined. This has led to a lack of research taking into account the complex trajectories of different cognitive profiles. This problem sits within a wider context of stroke as a chronic condition, with patients lacking much needed support and continuity of services following discharge. In this talk, I will try to elucidate the problem, sketch the background on recent developments in cognitive screening from my group and set out ongoing and planned work on ways to address this key reported unmet need from stroke survivors: managing cognitive changes post stroke.
