Managing the GHG Footprint of concrete requires a multi-pronged approach, starting with reducing the footprint of cement production, leveraging opportunities in concrete production and use, and Identifying net-negative applications. This goes far beyond the use of concrete in construction. It involves reducing emissions on our roads through greater fuel efficiency, using the thermal mass for heating/cooling our buildings, and the reflective characteristics of concrete. No one is better qualified to discuss these issues than Dr. Randolph Kirchain, Ph.D., the Co-Director of the Concrete Sustainability Hub at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
