They actually extrude this material with a coaxial nozzle -- two parts, the core with Carbon Fiber, and a high-temp nylon sheath around the outside. We don’t see other 25% fill materials because they become so brittle they cannot spool onto a spool -- HTN-CF25 is the highest strength and stiffness material in the Essentium portfolio. This material also boasts easy processing and excellent thermal resistance. Designed for tooling applications, high-strength/stiffness jigs and fixtures, and as a replacement for light-duty aluminum parts. They call it “Black Aluminum”

This material is designed for tooling applications, high-strength/stiffness jigs and fixtures, injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, composite molds, High strength end use parts, -- it’s literally a replacement for light duty aluminum parts. One awesome thing about this material is that when printed solid, it can be machined and actually used for injection molding -- we’ve got a video on surface finish, and Blake actually shows off some parts they made and used for polypropylene injection molds!

WHAT KIND OF MACHINE DO YOU NEED TO PRINT THIS FILAMENT?

Nozzle temp: 270-310 C depending on speed, which is usually 40-80mm/s on standard machines
Bed Temp: 80-90c

For bed adhesion, our nano polymer adhesive works GREAT on every surface we’ve tested! One bottle to rule them all…. Seriously, our stuff works with just about every material aside from POM and PP, so grab a bottle if you haven’t already!
Speed: again, 40-80mm/s and faster - on the HSE, they’re printing this stuff at 50-500 mm/s -- that’s right -- the HSE is an incredible machine, make sure you look that up.
Chamber Temp: Not required, but 60+c is helpful for strength!

Drying: yes, you MUST dry this filament. Like almost every thermoplastic, this does need to be dried thoroughly before processing, which is the fancy word for melting.

BASIC MATERIAL SPECS:
Heat Deflect Temp: up to 219°C
Continuous use temp of 150c for 20,000+ hours.
Substance: Semicrystalline

Ultimate Tensile Strength, on the ISO 527-2 test, in Megapascals, is
148 on the X/Y
74.5 at a 45 degree angle
40.6 on the YX
And 24 on the ZX -- so you still do lose a bit on the z-axis, but you get an INCREDIBLE

16,000 MPa tensile modulus on the XY -- 3500 on the zx. Depending how you design your part, this stuff is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than standard markforged onyx nylon (at 1400 MPa, but we don’t even know if that’s XY or ZX or what)
All data sheets are available on our online store, at visionminer.com/data, so you can find the tensile modulus, elongation, impact strength, and more.

HTN CF25 is resistant to many solvents, making it great for many chemical environments, especially under-the-hood applications. The high carbon content definitely helps the UV resistance, and you shouldn’t have any troubles placing these parts outside in direct sunlight. While this isn’t a fully ESD-safe filament, it’s so high in carbon that it does crawl into the electrostatic dissipative category. While this material doesn’t have many certifications as of January 2021, it’s on the way -- it can be sterilized due to the temperature resistance, but you probably won’t see it in medical tools due to the carbon content.
