Rusty cast iron tobacco cutter Restoration

Описание к видео Rusty cast iron tobacco cutter Restoration

This old hand cutter from Gesetzlich-Gesmutzt
I got to renovate from a friend of mine who built a museum.
He wanted the cutter to its original gray color with gold trim.
Those cutters were made around 1800.

action index:

0:06 demonstration
0:47 disassembly
3:55 soak in sodium hydroxide dissolved in boiling water.
ATTENTION! Sodium hydroxide is corrosive! Wear protective equipment!
4:13 After 24 hours remove the solution and clean with a brush under running water.
4:42 Sodium hydroxide cleaned parts are easier to clean with a wire disc
4:58 Coat the cleaned rust parts with a rust remover.
5:28 After drying, clean with a metal wool or a wire brush
5:55 paste the areas that we will not spray with paper tape
6:28 all parts are primed and after drying the upper color (I used a synthetic color)
6:41 After thorough drying of the top paint, we will gild. I used a gold alcohol marker.
7:23 Our dog Mona is tired too :)
7:35 While the dog rested, we're done! :)
7:53 Wooden parts still to be finished.
8:08 Glue the cleaned wood with paper tape so that it does not get dirty when polishing the brass comb.
8:25 Polish the brass ridge with a rag wheel and abrasive paste.
8:33 Remove the remainder of the paste with technical petrol
8:55 It is still necessary to sand the top plate with P180 sanding paper and P 220 sanding sponge
9:08 Oil has been used to impregnate the wood, which can come into contact with food. After the mallow clean everything thoroughly with a cloth.
9:28 Remove the adhesive tape from the sprayed parts and wipe the spots where the paint leaks.
9:45 And the compilation begins. First screw the knives. The handle is followed by the body assembly itself. Each thread should be greased with grease.
11:30 The body of the cutter has been folded and the top plate and the wooden cylinder with rages and a toothed comb used to feed the cut tobacco remain.
12:40 Demonstration of functionality. Since tobacco does not grow in our country, we used Levisticum officinale.
