Описание к видео Three death sentences, an acquittal and an unsolved crime: The Anokhilal story | BBC News India

In 2013, a nine-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Madhya Pradesh. A man gets caught for the crime. The investigation and trial happen at a breakneck speech. In just about a month after the crime, he is sentenced to death.

In 11 years, he is sentenced to death two more times, by different courts.

But in March of 2024, the same court which had pronounced him guilty previously, set him free. The court said that the evidence against him was not sufficient, in fact, it showed that someone else committed the crime. What happened in the case?

BBC Hindi travelled to Madhya Pradesh to speak to the accused, and how he spent 11 years in prison, and the victim’s family, who are still awaiting justice.
