One of my favorite things is to ask thoughtful questions that encourage people to reflect.
Maybe I learned this from Jesus, who asked many questions. He wanted people to consider their actions and choices. Religious leaders often acted arrogantly, thinking they had everything figured out for others, but Jesus would ask questions that revealed how much they still needed to learn. Reflecting on Jesus' questions is a valuable practice.
This story illustrates that well. The community had established rules and traditions, and when Jesus healed a woman on the Sabbath, disrupting those customs, the religious leaders were upset. Jesus wasn't supposed to disrupt the status quo.
I wonder how often we assume we have all the answers. We might try to confine Jesus within our comfort zones, accepting him only as long as he fits what we expect. But Jesus lovingly pushes beyond those boundaries. He wants us to see that outside our comfort zones lie the miracles and lessons he wants to share.
It's easy to cling to our own ideas and even accept brokenness, losing sight of the abundant life God desires for us. Could today be the day we allow Jesus to challenge our status quo?
